Ready Player? 5 Pieces of Awesome Retro Gaming Jewelry

With the recent release of Ready Player One in theaters, it seemed rather appropriate to do a vintage video game jewelry blog.

Have ya'll read the book? If you loved the 80's and you can't get over the games from that time period, I highly recommend the book to you. There are so many little nuggets of love in there that it's hard to get through them to the plot.

Moving on. The movie, from all accounts, is stellar. The plot actually shows through strongly, the characters are believable (if distinctly not as portly as described in the book, but what else is new?), and the gems of 80's trivia are still scattered throughout.

This week, I decided to pull the best handmade vintage-homage video game jewelry pieces from Etsy, for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

1. Gaming Love Necklace, by CriticalHitShop
Don't you love this necklace? The detail on the controller is just perfect, and the font choice on the letter forms is a perfect compliment to the controller. The whole thing is perfect for the avid gamer, and the shop has a wide variety of also-awesome geek paraphernalia. $20.

2. Game Ring, by fromtheinternet
Can I just tell you my favorite thing about this ring? The pixelation.

It's (..ready...) pixel perfect!

Seriously though, it is. The letters are identifiable and unique, but simple and not overdone. Also, because the ring is so understated, you can wear this ring anywhere, be it work or (Nintendo) play. $10.

3. Nintendo Entertainment System Stud Earring, by LittleBlueHouseStore
Remember those awesome 80's games we talked about? The vintage ones that were the beginning of gaming as we know it? (Minus Pacman, which, by the way, you can also find jewelry for on Etsy.)

This is the one that started it all.

Nintendo. A still-very-much-alive game system that's been running in people's houses for...well, ever! These earrings bring all the nostalgia and none of the electric shock. $6-13 depending on the posts you pick.

4. Pacman Stud Earrings, by micpohling
Love love love LOVE these! These silver-brushed Pacman stud earrings are simple, cute, identifiable, and only $2.80!! Who doesn't want these?

5. PlayStation Microchip Earrings, by CreativeFunny
Guys. How cool are these?

These earrings are made from actual PlayStation microchips, which CreativeFunny personally pulled out of PlayStation video game console circuit boards. Seriously, you could walk around with part of a circuit board hanging from your ears...

How cool is that?! $12.80.

There you go, gamers. The top 5 picks for handmade vintage video game jewelry. Check in next week for more awesome handpicked-handmade jewelry!
